Step Stool Makeover

Since moving to a new house I find my self regularly using the old step stool used for painting to reach my top kitchen cabinets.  My 3 year old has also decided it's the perfect height to sit on at the kitchen table since she is too grown up for the high chair now.  But my step stool was just plain ugly and I found it was sitting out all the time instead of tucked in next to the fridge.  So I went to Lowe's and found a can of Koi Pond satin spray paint and went at it.

Before painting, I removed the non-slip pads that were stuck on the steps cause they were peeling off anyway.  However, under them I found a lot of rust so I needed to add a quick coat of white primer.  Then I spray painted it blue.

While drying, I traced the non-slip pads onto the back of the non-adhesive Con-tact Grip Prints that I had left over from lining my pots and pans cabinet.  Although I wasn't exactly sure how to stick it down, I knew I needed to cover the steps because I hadn't been able to scrub all the adhesive off after pulling off the non-slip pads.

After the paint was dry I set the Con-tact Grip Prints down on the steps to see how it was going to look.   I loved it and then after my daughter tried it out I realized that there was enough adhesive left on the steps to hold the new grip print paper down.  Project done.  And now I love to leave it up to the kitchen table for my daughter.  Now to paint the kitchen table.
