Daisy Girl Scout Blanket

Some how I managed to find myself the leader of my daughters' Daisy Girl Scout Troop this year.  I wanted to do something to teach the girls how to sew and so I hit up Pinterest for some ideas and decided on YoYo's.  Simple circle with a stitch around the edge, pull tight and Wha La!  There are ten Daisy petals that the girls have to earn and we have twelve girls so we tried incorporate all of the petal colors and the center and then add white for twelve.
All my little Daisy's did pretty awesome! Some finished a Yoyo for another, exhibiting good Girl Scout values.   I'll be honest, I can't remember now what petal this activity fulfilled, but it could fit into a couple of them. After they were done sewing the Yoyo's I stitched green ricrac to my one-sided flannel, then hand sewed on the yoyo's with a button in the middle. Next I folded the fabric in half with right sides together (fold is the top edge) and stitched 3/4 of the way around the open edges.  Then I turned it right side out and did a decorative stitch all the way around all 4 edges to close the open hole and complete the blanket.  Now we are going to donate the blanket to the local shelter for foster children.
