My great-grandma had a little journal that she kept a daily record of the things she did. She would jot down little things like "mopped the floor with Jiffy Wax today." With all the time we, as moms, spend on the little things that we do to keep our house clean each day, often I find myself wanting some acknowledgement that I have accomplished something in my day. I think Great-grandma did that through her journal. And so today, my journal entry consists of just such things. Starting with my yesterday: I emptied the dishes, loaded the dishes, swept the kitchen floor, got half of the primer on a furniture refinishing project, cleaned up two potty training accidents--one required cleaning the carpet by hand, vacuumed part of the house, took my children to the pool, endured 45 minutes of a 3 year old's temper tantrum, finally got the 3-year-old to fall asleep and take a sorely needed nap, cooked dinner, gave the children a bath, blowed their hair dry, brushed their teeth, flossed their teeth, and read them a story, oh yeah and spent at least 2-3 hours doing work for my husband's business.
Today I cleaned the mirrors and some of the windows, fixed breakfast, cleaned the kitchen sink, refilled the hand soap dispensers, endured another 20 minute temper-tantrum because I wouldn't let my 3-year-old have Cheetos for breakfast, walked my 5-year-old to school, washed a load of whites, got my 3 year-old to put clothes on, vacuumed the vent on the fan, and it's just 10:30 am.
